Learn by making.

Five mornings that take you through the whole process, from why the camera goes here and not there, through light, sound and directing real people, to editing and colour grading your footage into something finished. Practical from the first hour. You shoot, you cut, you leave with a film.

Day by day

How the workshop works

Story and the shot

Why the camera goes here and not there. Framing, lens choice, movement and composition. You shoot a five-shot sequence.

Camera and light

Exposure, log profiles and white balance, and how to shoot in hard Canarian sun without losing the image. Filmed outdoors in the real midday light you will actually be working in.

Sound and people

The thing most people neglect: microphones, placement, levels and room tone. Then getting a natural performance out of someone who isn't an actor.

The edit

Ingest, organise, assemble. Cutting for story rather than for your favourite shots. Music and mix, using your own footage.

Grade and finish

Correction versus grading, building a look, matching shots and exporting for each platform. We end with a screening of everyone's film.
